Professor/Associate Professor position in Building Information Modelling (BIM)

The University of Liège offers a vacancy for a Professor/Associate Professor position in Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Extensive research is conducted in the University of Liège at the Department of Urban and Environmental Engineering and the Research Unit of Digital Culture for Architecture, where several research groups have been established, participating in national and international research projects. We are looking for a candidate who is willing to take a key role in strengthening and developing the BIM domain in the University.

Main duties of the position

  • Teaching at Bachelor and Master levels (max 250 hours, including seminars and practice), supervision of PhD and Master thesis in architecture, civil engineering and architectural engineering,
  • Developing continued education courses offered to professionals,
  • Leading and disseminating research activities in the field of BIM within the University and Internationally, including research grants applications, R&D development with the professional sector and regional, national or international authorities,
  • Activing contribution to the general development of the University community (academic, research and services),
  • Fulfilling the high quality standards of Education and Research of the University.


  • PhD in architecture, civil engineering, architectural engineering or computer science,
  • Excellence in Research as documented through scientific publication records,
  • Internationally renowned the field of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and established scientific and/or professional network,
  • Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge and vision of digital solutions used in Building Information Modelling across the sector value chain (architecture, civil engineering, informatics and actors’ interaction),
  • Experience in teaching and supervision in the Higher Education,
  • Proficiency in written and spoken French and English.

Professional experience from design and construction of buildings, experience in the direction and management of research projects and international research collaboration, are considered as an asset for the application.

Application procedure

The following documents together with your application are required by the final date for applications:

  • Curriculum Vitae including a complete list of publications,
  • a motivation letter,
  • a prospective pedagogical project (5000 characters),
  • a scientific plan for the next 5 years (5000 characters),
  • a list of 5 key scientific achievements (publication, grants, awards, projects…) and for each a short explanation,
  • a table of contents of academic documents including your PhD dissertation,
  • full copies of certificates/diplomas.

Documents may be delivered either in French or in English and provided in paper and electronic form (pdf)


An internal committee will assess applications and will make a first selection based on the received applications (application should be fully complete).

A second phase will consist in inviting selected applicants to give a short course (15 min) and to present their research project (15 min), followed by discussions and interview. External experts will also assess the applications of the selected applicants and provide a written report and a ranking.
