You will be working towards your PhD degree in the Maes group of the research division Organic Synthesis (ORSY) of the Department of Chemistry. The Maes group is a partner in the Centre of Excellence CASCH (www.casch.be) and the Valorization Platform SusChemA (www.uantwerpen.be/en/rg/sustainable-chemistry-antwerpen/) of the University of Antwerp. Your research project will deal with the development of new synthetic methodologies to transform biorenewable compounds into useful building blocks for the commodity and fine chemicals industry. This research fits in the framework of a research line on biorenewables in the group supported by several multipartner projects (e.g. Excellence of Science program of FWO (www.fwo.be/en/news/results/research-projects-and-research-grants/results-eos-research-projects-2017/), Moonshot program of Catalisti (catalisti.be/moonshot/)).
Job description: As a holder of master diploma with a good theoretical and practical knowledge of organic synthetic chemistry you will investigate the development of synthetic routes towards commodity and fine chemicals based on biorenewable building blocks.
Your Profile: The ideal candidate for the position holds a master degree in chemistry or master degree in bioscience engineering (option chemistry) with hands-on experience in analytical separation techniques, mass spectrometry, preparative purification techniques, and structural characterization of organic molecules. The ability to work in a team as well as good communication/writing skills and a good mastery of the English language are required. Interest in multidisciplinary research is an advantage.
