Mechatronics Research Engineer for Biomedical Applications

A : Research engineer with or without the possibility of performing a PhD.

Brief description of the position:

Research and development engineer in mechatronics design for biomedical applications (with or without the possibility of carrying out a PhD thesis associated with the research).

Description of the activities and tasks:

As part of a biomedical project in a partnership between companies, hospitals and universities, a position as engineer in research and development in the field of mechatronic design, for an initial duration of 4 years, is opened within the Fluids-Machines Unit of UMONS.

The position involves the design and construction of an in vitro chamber automatically controlled to accurately reproduce pulsatile flows within primary and collateral vessels such as those present in the human aortic arch.

The tasks associated with this position are:

  • The design, the choice of equipment and the realization of an in vitro chamber of 3rd generation.
  • The conception of the automated control of this in vitro chamber to be compatible for the reproduction of the pulsatile flow conditions with models of complex three-dimensional geometries of aortic crosses and collateral arteries.
  • Through the developed in vitro chamber, the management and realization of experimental measurements in unsteady pulsatile flow conditions.
  • The development of a measurement and visualization method to quantify the properties of stents porosity to the pulsatile flow.
  • Collaboration with the hospital research centers for the analysis of the effects on the presence of thrombus in the flow.
  • For medical companies associated with the project, the evaluation of haemodynamic changes and the behaviour in flow damping and thrombus filtering.

Engineer with a Master’s degree in mechanics.
