The Faculty of Sciences of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) invites applications for a full-time academic position in Computer Science to begin October 1st, 2020.
All areas of Computer Science will be considered, with a focus on: cybersecurity, cryptography, scheduling, network or combinatorial optimization, including their connections with other areas such as artificial intelligence and data science.
ULB and the Computer Science Department is strongly committed to improving gender equality. Therefore, a proactive attitude to supporting and encouraging underrepresented groups, including women, in Computer Science will be one of the criteria for appointment.
The Computer Science Department of ULB is a leading research and dynamic education center. Located in the capital of Europe, it offers a wide range of funding and research opportunities. Brussels is a cosmopolitan city with an excellent quality of life and easy access to all major cities in Europe.
The position involves both teaching and research and some commitment to administrative tasks. For candidates not fluent in French, a temporary period of teaching in English shall be granted.
Applicants need to hold a PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related disciplines.
Candidates are expected to lead a high-quality research and teaching program in computer science. Significant research and teaching experience, as well as a strong publication record in international journals and top conferences in the candidate's area, are required. Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration, successful supervision of PhD and Master students, ability to bring substantial research funding, experience in managing and leading a research group as well as significant research stays in foreign universities or research laboratories are important assets.

The appointment to the academic staff of ULB is made at “Premier Assistant” (Assistant Professor) level, if the candidate has had a PhD for less than eight years (on 1 October of the year of appointment). If the candidate has had a PhD for eight or more years, on 1 October of the year of appointment, then the appointment is made at “Chargé de Cours” (Associate Professor) level. As of their appointment, members of academic staff are authorized to use the honorary title of “Professeur”.
