at the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry. Closing date: 30 December 2019.
The Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry is one of the larger institutions at Stockholm University with about 150 employees and about 2,000 students per academic year. The teaching focuses on solid chemistry, material chemistry and modern characterization techniques. The main research areas are porous materials, bio-based materials and electron microscopy.
Project titel: Research on energy materials incl. project management
The group for Physical Materials Chemistry at the Department of Materials and Environmental Chemistry, led by Prof. Dr. Anja-Verena Mudring (www.mudring.org) is busy exploring new materials for energy-related applications for a sustainable society. Sustainability is one of our basic requirements. Thus, the development of clean technology that minimizes our environmental impact is of utmost importance. Applications in focus are energy efficient lighting, catalysis, magnetic cooling and thermoelectric energy conversion. In this context, intermetallics and related compounds offer interesting properties. Syntheses of these with state-of-the-art chemical techniques and advanced characterization methods such as X-ray diffraction, neutron scattering, electron microscopy, measurement of transport properties such as heat and electron conductivity as well as theoretical modelling are important in advancing the field.
The position requires the development, synthesis and characterization of intermetallic compounds, data analysis and interpretation as well as their scientific presentation in the form of scientific publications, oral and poster contributions as well as project reports and outreach to the public. The position shall entail knowledge transfer, training and mentoring in the field. Furthermore, the position will require participation in grant administration and active participation in proposal writing.
Eligible candidates must have completed a doctoral degree or a foreign degree which is considered to correspond to a doctoral degree in chemical or physical sciences or engineering and at least 2 years of post-graduate experience in the field of materials science, solid state chemistry or physics.
During the appointment, special emphasis will be placed on scientific skill. The candidate must have documented experience of synthetic solid state and materials chemistry. The candidate must document the experience by having published in reputable peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Documented knowledge a variety of solid state synthesis techniques such as arc-melting, flux reactions and high temperature synthesis, in powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, electron microscopy, thermal analysis, materials property characterization (heat and electric conductivity, magnetization, etc.), property prediction with theoretical tools.
Applicants must have strong communication and management skills with excellent knowledge in English, both written and oral.
