The Medical Faculty of the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg offers an
Junior-Professorship (W1) for „Inflammation and Immunometabolism“
The position will be available from 1/5/2020. The successful candidate receives a three-year contract. Upon positive evaluation, the contract shall be prolonged for another three-year period. The salary corresponds to the W1 level of the German University scale.
The candidate has a proven record of studying T cell responses with a particular focus on T cell receptor-mediated second messenger signaling using mouse models of allergic diseases, autoimmunity and immunity to viral and/or fungal infections. The research of the successful candidate is expected to characterize metabolic tissue requirements of T helper cell populations during physiological and pathological immune responses in vivo. Therefore, a solid background in using various murine disease models together with a strong expertise in studying T cell metabolism is required. Additional experience in studying the role of second messengers in T cell responses is desired. The research profile of the successful candidate should have a profound translational character by including investigations on genetically susceptible individuals suffering from allergic, autoimmune and/or infectious diseases.
Selection for this position will be based on academic qualification. Formal prerequisites for the appointment are qualifications according to § 40 of the Higher Education Act for the Federal State of Saxony-Anhalt (HSG LSA).
The faculty invites applications from medical (MD) or science graduates (PhD) with a translational research program. The date of graduation (MD or PhD) of the successful candidate should be at maximum 5 but not less than 2 years ago.
The candidate has an excellent publication record and has a proven record in achieving competitive research grants. He/she has conducted at least 2 years of postdoctoral training in an international or competitive national setting. Experience in teaching on the undergraduate level is desired. Candidates should have proven leadership skills, a team- supporting management style and are expected to support the Medical Faculty in innovative and modern teaching activities. Teaching obligations are in the study courses „Human Medicine“, „Immunology“, „Biosystems Technology“ and „Health Sciences (planned)“.
