The department of Clinical Sciences is opening up a new position for a professor clinical immunology to study the immune responses during and following natural infections and vaccination, including aspects of protection, cure, latency, treatment outcome or persistence. The understanding of immune responses and immunopathology is important to develop and evaluate vaccines, adjuvants, host-directed therapies, prognostic and diagnostic tools for tropical and emerging infections (also in immunocompromised patients).
The “Clinical Immunology Unit” headed by this professor will develop a competitive research agenda and bring added value to the already existing research lines in the clinical, biomedical and public health sciences. The unit will also increase the critical mass of competences in immunology at ITM, and collaborate closely with the new unit of Experimental Immunology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, and with the Department of Public Health.
We are looking for an outstanding academic in the field of immunology to perform advanced studies aiming to (i) identify human immune-therapeutic and vaccine targets, (ii) assess (vaccine-induced) immunological correlates of protection, and (iii) develop novel diagnostic tests based on humoral or cellular immunity iv) understand immunopathology.
