The Role / Job:
PHD SPONSORED BY AGC WITH NAMUR UNIVERSITY
We are looking for a physician, chemist of engineer in material sciences, keen on starting a PHD in collaboration with the University of Namur under a four year AGC contract. The chosen topic is « Study of ion beam implantation of optical PVD coatings », The objective is to modify PVD coatings deposited on the glass surface by light ion implantation.
The ion beam implantation will be done with a high-current industrial source used by AGC. After a characterization using industrial methods of the mechanical, chemical, optical and conductive properties of the PVD layers, a series of samples will be selected. These samples will be analysed using the glass industry's traditional analysis methods as well as Namur University's state-of-the-art instruments (ToF-SIMS, XPS, NRA, IBA,...) in order to understand the mechanisms that come into play in the modification of the PVD layers' properties (mechanical, optical, chemical and conductive).
The candidate will have access to a whole series of simulation/modeling tools (commercial or developed in-house by Namur University/AGC) that he will combine in order to improve the understanding of the phenomena involved and accelerate the thesis.
