The Department of Chemistry and Materials Science is now looking for a
DOCTORAL CANDIDATE IN ELECTROCATALYSIS
In this position, you will have a chance to be a part of the international LESGO project funded by EU Horizon 2020 programme. The three-year project focuses on hydrogen storage and fuel cell, and it is a collaboration between ten research organizations and companies in different countries. Department of Chemistry and Materials Science is contributing to development and up-scaling of synthesis processes for electrocatalyst materials in collaboration with the other LESGO partners including ICFO, IREC and Graphanea in Spain, University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany, CNR, Hysytech and FIAT in Italy, GenCell in Israel, and Fonden Teknologieradet in Denmark.
Your work will include synthesis and structural and electrochemical characterization of the electrocatalyst materials as well as laboratory-scale cell testing. You will do the work in collaboration with a supportive and skilled supervisor and postdoctoral researchers contributing to the project.
Through the three-year’s study and scientific research, you will get all the basic skills needed for scientific research in electrochemistry, and on top of that, learn how the collaboration between research and industry happens. This project will give you an amazing opportunity to witness the whole procedure of how a novel idea becomes a product.
The Department of Chemistry and Materials Science at Aalto University has strong records in material development for energy applications. You will join the department’s skilled Electrochemical Energy Conversion research group lead by Prof. Tanja Kallio.
You have a master’s degree (or an equivalent) in Chemistry, Material Science or related field. We also expect you to have a good knowledge in some or all of the following areas: electrocatalysis, electrochemistry, material synthesis, structural characterization techniques (TEM, SEM, Raman, XRD, etc.). We consider work experience in the development of OER or ORR catalysts as your advantage.
